US Open Tennis, Ticket Deals for Summer in August

The Start of Summer and the US Open Tennis Series

Our great American summer tradition - between BBQs and fireworks. Professional sports means enjoying a fun day together and cheering on our favorite players. Nothing beats sharing some food with all your friends and a chance to collect an autograph or collectible souvenir.

Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, the pools open, school is out, and your adventure awaits!

Cheaper to Wait? When to buy US Open tickets?

Note the initial offer prices and look for special sale promotions between July and early August. More seats become available during the summer. Deals are usually for mid-week at the promenade seating level near the upper rows of Ashe.

It is our advice to have travel plans set before getting tickets. Having plane and hotel tickets ready helps me narrow down my dates. Next, decide how many day or evening sessions you plan to attend. I prefer two Ashe day sessions for max value so you'll see most of the players.

#1 Most Popular Date - Smart Shopping

Sat, Sept 3rd is the most popular middle Saturday!
Sign up for our emails to get our 15+ years of attending US Open and tennis tournament tips.

You will be notified when special promo offers are announced. The Amex Centurion suite and Chase RSVP lounge also become available for online reservations during the Summer.

"Buy in July vs Rush in August" - Summer Ticket discount trends

In past years, we have purchased 2-for-1 ticket deals and seen prices as low as $30. Sponsors such as Emirates, Amex, JP Morgan, and IBM often have discounted ticket codes. We share the sponsor deals on our email list!

We are neither paid nor sponsored by the US Open, and our opinions are completely our own. These limited-seat deals become available and are very useful if you just want to roam the grounds. More people will start selling tickets by mid-August, making it a buyer's market.

The US Open Series features tennis events held across the USA (July - August)
It signals the beginning of the US Hard Court tennis season. Everything leads up to the big finish in NYC with the US Open in August. Attending any of these events across America will give fans a sneak preview locally for anyone who can't make it to the Big Apple.

I share my personal travel experiences on the ATP and WTA tennis tour at JCtennis. Feel free to check it out if you want inspiration or a sample guide for planning your own post-vaccination tennis vacation.

Full Stadiums, more positive signals from Sports Fans in Europe

Being a photographer on the court and at their press conference, my opinion is from an insider perspective at actual pro tennis events. I watch the conditions and players on the ATP and WTA tours daily. It was an honor to dust the same clay off my shoes as Nadal and Djokovic.

Witnessing the energy and passion of the full Spanish crowd at Madrid’s stadium is the most amazing way to feel connected with a sea of cheering fans full of energy, waving their red and yellow.

Feel the spirit of Tennis Fandom in person
Like a Champions League soccer match, the entire crowd erupts together in a wave of humanity. Tennis fans enjoyed the clash between Nadal and Alcaraz with stars from Real Madrid soccer players and even the King of Spain himself in attendance.

We heard the packed Parisian crowd again at the French Open in Paris. So far, so good. Regarding public safety and health, we look back a few weeks after these sporting events conclude.

This is the most encouraging sign that major sporting events can return fully this year in a post-vax environment.

News Alert: Arthur Ashe Roof ready for play in 2016

This year, main stadium retractable roof is to be completed - which means at least one weather-proof stadium where top, marque matches will be played regardless of rain! No more rain outs! Yaaah!

This also means that the Arthur Ashe tickets are more valuable this year*  It gives you a guaranteed dry seat to watch a live match in a climate-controlled environment. There will also be a newly rebuilt Grandstand stadium this year with 8,000 seats and extra shade around the edges.

US Open Ashe Roof ClosedSchedule Changes for 2016

This year's matches are played over 2 weeks, from Aug 29 to Sept 11.
  • Top Tickets: Men's Final pushed back to the traditional last Sunday Sept 11 (instead of Monday night)
  • Men's Semi-Finals are now all held on Friday Sept 9 (session 22).
  • Women's Final on Sat, Sept 10 was sold out last year, even before the men's finals.
  • A new Grandstand Court (more circular and which offers more shaded seats) will be ready soon - more pictures and details coming later in our "Best Seats" secret spots email for each stadium.
  • Great alternative ticket option for 1st week are called Grounds Passes - which lets you into all court except Ashe Stadium. Great option for about $80!
  • The 2-for-1 Ticket Promo codes for 2016 will start rolling out from us starting around June!
A great way to bring a friend to enjoy the game on a weekday, and save 50% over the box office.
  • We would avoid the "USTA member pre-sale" at the end of May, unless you absolutely must get those Labor Day weekend tickets. Seats will be very limited or extra expensive for those Packages; but need not fear, as more choices will be available later this summer.

Rain Update: Men's Monday Final Tickets ~$80, Women's Final ~$50 on TicketExchange NOW!

Check here on Limited Availability and Updated Prices:

$5 Grounds Pass for Men's Monday Finals

You can also get a $5 Grounds Admission Pass to watch the Men's Final at the US Open on the big screens. It can actually be a very exciting crowd outside the stadium. You can actually hear the players' shots echoing, fans cheering on both sides plus usually a better view than sitting at the very top of Ashe.

Tip: Be sure to pick up one of those Amex radios to get the play-by-play audio too. Can't beat $5 bucks!!

Actually now that I think about it, if you arrive later at night and see some people leaving the match early - you could always ask them nicely for their old ticket.
If Murray wins, it might be cool to go inside just to see Andy hoist his first Grand slam title! Enjoy the Finals!

US Open Weather and Ticket Update:

With severe weather canceling the 2nd men's semi-final and women's final, ticket sales are going crazy! People are trying to get rid of tickets as fast as they can tonight - Sell! Sell!

Here's the new schedule:

Sunday Schedule:
Ferrer-Djokovic 11 am, Azarenka-Serena 4:30 pm.

Monday Schedule:
Men's final on Monday ~5PM

9/5 and 9/6, Thursday and Friday tickets: 2-for-1 specials

Looking for great deals for Thursday and Friday tickets?

Sometimes the rain we had on Tues and Wed can work out for the best for those people who have tickets for Thursday and Friday sessions.

Remember there are $26 tickets available for both days with our ticketmaster promo codes

Janko Tipsarevic (SRB)[8] vs. David Ferrer (ESP)[4] (9/6 @ 1:30 PM)

The last men's quarter-final will be played NLT 1:30 PM. Also now with Federer out of the draw as of last night, the men's field is wide open! That was a terrific match between Berdych and Federer - who knows, maybe this is the year that Murray will finally win his first major?!

Also on the women's side, many are predicting a Serena vs Sharapova face-off and rematch.

Also, you'll be able to see both Men's and Women's Doubles semi-finals in the next few days.

Remember that the outer courts will have the top juniors all playing during the day so hopefully you'll be able to see some future stars in action too!

Make the US Open more "Tennis Fan-Friendly"
I think that the USTA should show a bit more generosity back to the FANS and its USTA members than it has this year. Yes, it is important that it earns enough money as a non-profit, but the US Open should not just be about making the most money with big sponsors. Unfortunately, the most expensive corporate seats and suites sold usually go to those who are not even tennis players or do not regularly follow tennis. How is that fair?
Article from NY Times, 8/31/12
[Disappointed that Rafael Nadal was not playing in this year’s Open, Ruben Martin Vadillo and Mayte Rodriguez Gil, visiting New York from Madrid, did not bother purchasing tickets for the event.
“It’s too expensive,” said Vadillo, a 31-year-old physical therapist.]
The practice courts on P1-P4 could soon be going away soon too...now there is construction that pretty much bottlenecks that entire section of the US Open.

Waiting for USTA to step up
Many tennis fans who waited patiently for some affordable nose-bleed 1st week day tickets never got any this year. They were sold at full price and we've heard a lot of feedback from normally loyal US Open fans. Tickets for optimal days such as labor day weekend and Semi/Finals Weekend were sold out too quickly (possibly for scalping reasons).

Fill in more empty stadium seats, upgrade more fan seats!
Would it not make sense that we try to generate more sold-out sessions instead of leaving all these empty seats out there, like we did tonight at Andy Roddick's last match (only 1/3 full according to the commentators).

Suggestions to the USTA and the US Open
How about just some discounted Grounds Passes so we do not "gentrify" this sport in the US? Low-income and middle-class American tennis fans want to see good tennis too.

How much extra does it really cost USTA to have one extra fan on the premise? How about some discounts for children so that they can witness some great matches and dream big to play one day in Ashe Stadium. How about discounts for seniors and our active military personnel?

If most of the smaller US Open series tournaments are already doing this with family 4-packs and 10% off promos for USTA members, then isn't it about time??
Sure this is a political time in America, so for maybe this is the right time for Tennis fans to band together and demand that the USTA give back. Let's demand better tennis deals! Send this Email to support our campaign.

Some observations from this year's US Open...

Tennis-Bargains is back from the first week at the US Open 2012 opening weekend!

A few notables US Open 2012 additions and changes we want to highlight for you below. Also, with some US Open insider's guide Part 1 and Part 2 with insights during qualifying week

Court 17 - The "New Grandstand"

Fans Welcome Weekend - Free Close-up Players Practice

  • Got to see Roger Federer, Djokovic, Murray, Ferrer, Raonic, Nalbandian, Tsonga, Del Portro, Tipsarevic, Cilic, Monaco FOR FREE!!
  • Yep, if you came to visit the US Open this past weekend, you got to see practically every male player in the Top 15 from about 20-30 feet away!
  • On the women's side, we were able to see on these courts: Sharapova, Serena Williams, Clisters, Li Na, etc...

Top Food choice this year: Crepes

  • About 3/4 the way down the row of the food court area - these crepes come in different meats (chicken, beef, pork, veggie, etc).
  • Definitely would recommend trying one for about $11 for a relatively healthy yet tasty choice.
  • My favorite, "Le Poulle": The Chicken Crepe ~$11 is one of the best meals on site - good to enjoy when watching a match on the new court 17. Check out this article/review from NY Times.

Thanks to all our fans (both new and old) who are following us!

Free "Welcome Weekend" for US Open Fans

Alsofeel free to say hi if you see us as we walk about the tennis grounds. We welcome tennis fans of all ages to get a chance to experience this American Grand Slam.

During the day, you'll get to meet the pro players, fellow coaches and the entourage up close on the practice courts. Plus we'll lead you  around to some of our favorite Tennis-Bargain "hidden secrets" and check out the new court 17, at the 2012 US Open.
