US Open Grandstand: Opening Day Preview and Swag

US Open - Full Fan Preview & Grandstand Map

After 3 days at the US Open this weekend, I wanted to share my tips and findings with all the US Open tennis fans from around the world. Should give you an idea of what to expect*

Millions of fans will be attending this year in NYC or following it online and on TV.
Our goal is to make your experience fun, safe, and most importantly a good value.

Personal Weekend Experience and Opinions:
Two days of Qualifiers plus Arthur Ashe Kids Day. I witnessed a lot of new things while they were on my preview tour of the grounds at Flushing Meadows.

New 2016 US Open Grandstand Court - most-shaded seats looking towards Ashe

Bonus: New Grandstand Stadium

Absolutely gorgeous architecture and a facility designed by Rossetti Architecture.

The flow of the tennis campus now draws crowds in more of a circular path, but bottlenecks still occur at the food court pavilion and effectively isolate Court 17 as it is in the opposite corner from everything else.

A few tricks to save yourself time and sweat: Walk *behind* the new Grandstand stadium area. Stick to the paths at the South edge and West Edge. There is a "secret" back entrance along the South side of the Grandstand...with lounge seating and a private bathroom if you go all the way up to the top of the Grandstand. This is where most of the ESPN crew go to use it. It's like a private little hotel up there.

Also, another optimal and shaded path you can take is between the P1-P5 courts and cut through to see the new Grandstand.

How to defeat the bad - high pricesSummary
1) Good New Grandstand Stadium and Ashe Roof. Great Weather. Lots of Tennis.
2) Bad HIGH Food Prices. Still not Tech Savvy. Lack of Easy Info.
3) Ugly US Open Staff Service (not everyone) - a few rotten apples in the big apple...more later

News Alert: Arthur Ashe Roof ready for play in 2016

This year, main stadium retractable roof is to be completed - which means at least one weather-proof stadium where top, marque matches will be played regardless of rain! No more rain outs! Yaaah!

This also means that the Arthur Ashe tickets are more valuable this year*  It gives you a guaranteed dry seat to watch a live match in a climate-controlled environment. There will also be a newly rebuilt Grandstand stadium this year with 8,000 seats and extra shade around the edges.

US Open Ashe Roof ClosedSchedule Changes for 2016

This year's matches are played over 2 weeks, from Aug 29 to Sept 11.
  • Top Tickets: Men's Final pushed back to the traditional last Sunday Sept 11 (instead of Monday night)
  • Men's Semi-Finals are now all held on Friday Sept 9 (session 22).
  • Women's Final on Sat, Sept 10 was sold out last year, even before the men's finals.
  • A new Grandstand Court (more circular and which offers more shaded seats) will be ready soon - more pictures and details coming later in our "Best Seats" secret spots email for each stadium.
  • Great alternative ticket option for 1st week are called Grounds Passes - which lets you into all court except Ashe Stadium. Great option for about $80!
  • The 2-for-1 Ticket Promo codes for 2016 will start rolling out from us starting around June!
A great way to bring a friend to enjoy the game on a weekday, and save 50% over the box office.
  • We would avoid the "USTA member pre-sale" at the end of May, unless you absolutely must get those Labor Day weekend tickets. Seats will be very limited or extra expensive for those Packages; but need not fear, as more choices will be available later this summer.

Compare 4 US Open tickets: Ashe, Grounds Pass, Armstrong, Grandstand

US Open Tickets - Direct Ticketmaster Links

  • Arthur Ashe #1
  • Armstrong #2
  • Grandstand #3

  • Grounds Passes

  • Prices fluctuate on the resale market daily.
  • Look for price arbitrage to get the best deal and watch the match you want.

  • Use the daily "Schedule of Play" guide to decide what matches you want to see.
  • Before buying last-minute tickets, you should check these 4 links first.
  • If you're not picky, you can choose the cheapest option and just roam.

1) Arthur Ashe Stadium Tickets

Why are Ashe tickets the best tickets in general?
Short Answer: Most flexible option. Full Access to all courts.

Unless there is a specific player and match you want to attend, then the Arthur Ashe tickets are the safest all-around bet when buying well in advance.

US Open Tickets with prices updated daily

Ashe is typically slightly more expensive to buy than Grounds Passes (except in 2022 for the upper promenade areas there are some $60 options). Yet it grants you a reserved seat (very useful if it rains) and still allows you into every stadium. To me, any Ashe ticket is worth at least $10 more than a general Grounds Pass.

The strategy is to roam anywhere, knowing you have your own seat reserved in Ashe when you want to see your favorite star player play.

The top-seeded players that are fan favorites will almost always play there exclusively and often at night.

Free US Open Tips and promo codes for new fans

The trick is if you decide to get the cheapest Arthur Ashe tickets up in the upper promenade, you DON'T have to stay all day in the nosebleeds section!  Instead, I recommend getting up and checking out the US Open campus outside!

Free US Open Campus Tour Map
Walking around the outside courts first and definitely go inside Armstrong, Grandstand, and Court 17. At least one of them has an exciting match. Another idea is figuring out which match looks like it will be going into a 5th set and then going there for the finish.

Look around at some of the highlights below if you get bored, and you can always come back to Ashe later!

This is basically a free-for-all ticket that gets you in the door - great for roaming around.

You can tour all other stadiums and over 20 outside courts except Ashe. Sometimes if Ashe is sold out, this is the next best option and generally is a little bit less expensive. Grounds Passes are a great way to go on Labor Day weekend or just to check out the US Open for the first time.
Be closer to the action in a more cozy space, and avoid the large crowds.

Years before Ashe was built, Armstrong was the main stadium. After the latest update in 2018, this stadium offers much better ventilation and shade for a large portion of the upper sections.

Buying an Armstrong ticket gives you a reserved seat up close and is a good alternative option when you rather have a more intimate view of the players in a slightly smaller setting. Also works if the date you want to go is sold out completely (Labor Day weekend).

What is NOT included? It lets you watch any matches except those inside Arthur Ashe.

Armstrong usually features at least 2-3 great matches (top 20 players). Plus, you will be much closer to the excitement without costing over $150. If you want the same seat quality in Ashe, it will cost >$500.

It also lets you hop over to the Grandstand (3rd court) right next door to get some shade and grab a bite to eat at the mini-food court between the two.

4) Grandstand aka "The Bull Ring" ($85+)

If prices are reasonable and you can find a good seat, I would consider the West side tickets or along the baseline at the Grandstand. Some amazing popcorn matches have happened here over the Labor Day Weekend in years past. Any seats in Rows A thru G for sections 1 thru 12 would be a good value.

Bonus Tip - Be First in Line
For almost all the smaller courts, they offer a "first-come, first-serve" system.  This means if you get in line early (gates open at 11AM. The EAST gate is the least crowded out of them), you can move quickly and get Front Row seats!

NEVER wait at the box office to buy US Open tennis tickets!

Find "sold-out" US Open tickets here!

Buy Online Tickets instead of Waiting-In-Line at the Box Office
1) SAVE TIME - "there are no lines when you order on-line".
You can get a price check instantly on the exact seat you want. Updated daily. Prices posted by other actual ticket holders who want to sell great seats.

Compare sellers and buyers prices without having to wait long lines. The best seats, even sold out ones are listed for you here. Why would anyone buy them at full retail price anymore??

2) Promo codes (2 for 1 deals and exclusive seats)
If you get to the box office and tell them you see this promo code online and can you please match it, their answer will be, please go online to Ticketmaster.com as we do not accept online codes

3) Get great seat tickets with less money and frustration
It is MUCH easier to use the 2-for-1 promo codes that come out each year. In my opinion, think of it as "an extra free ticket" for a friend.

Plus you can always sell the extra one through the genuine TicketExchange dealer.

4) Sell any extra tickets later (only buy online electronic tickets at TicketExchange)
This way you can transfer to friends via email, or sell them directly without mailing anything.

Personally, I think this is much better than risk getting in trouble with scalpers or police circling around the subway stop each year. Have you ever have tried standing there trying to haggle with someone over a ticket price? Especially when you're just going to miss more of the match every minute?! Trust me, it is not worth the hassle and frustration to waste time*

If you really want to get your tickets today, here is what I recommend...

Get your Labor Day Weekend tickets in early July and sell the session you don't use.
Consider buying a US Open Mini-Plan Option (which costs $100 upfront deposit), then sell your extra unused tickets on TicketExchange. Usually you will come out about even.

2015 US Open Schedule - Important Changes

2015 us open tennis tickets banner

Important Changes to the US Open schedule for 2015

Men's Final is now on Sunday Sept 13. The Men's Semi-Finals are on Friday Sept 11 this year.

Both sessions are said to be "sold out" by the US Open.  However, we found a few seats can still be found on TicketExchange. Women's Final and Men's Doubles Final are on Saturday Sept 12.

Great value US Open tickets for the 1st week

The 1st round matches have been compressed to just 2 days (Monday and Tuesday) of the first week. In the past, they usually included Wed. That means "better matches" earlier in the schedule with more match courts to roam.

For Sept 2-4, Ashe Day Sessions, marked in bold below will typically go for around $40 with the 2-for-1 promo codes. They offer a full lineup of 4 matches per day to watch on virtually every court. **US Open Promo codes will be sent shortly to our Facebook fans who like our posts and US Open email subscribers.

This year will probably feature better seeded matches over Labor Day weekend (Sept 5-7) Sat/Sun/Mon on the top show courts. This includes Ashe, Armstrong and Grandstand plus a few possibly on Court 17. This is a very popular holiday weekend, and we have a pair of tickets to give away for one of our lucky fans / email subscriber. You should also be able to buy a Grounds Pass for these days for about $90.

If rain is in the forecast for the first week, then getting early 2nd week tickets (Sept 8-9) might be also be a great bet. The roof over Ashe is not yet completed; so expect any rained out matches to be pushed to the next day, if there is a total wash out.

US Open: Thanks to all our Fans!

Wrapping up Summer of Tennis

First off, just want to thank all our fans and all our supporters for making this the most successful US Open and Summers of Tennis we've ever had!

I appreciate all the positive comments and amazing stories in fan mail I've gotten back from our fans who have been lucky enough to go see the US Open first hand. Practically everyone had at least one or two great memories to share with us.

Sharing the Tennis Love

I have been fortunate and blessed to be able to travel around the world to see so many ATP and WTA tournaments. Plus, finally pulling out all the stops to see the Aussie Open in 2013 - to finally complete the "4 Grand Fan Majors or Slams" - is an amazing journey I love sharing.

Coming back to the US Open (my favorite slam) over the years, it's a very rewarding feeling to meet and talk to so many who are enjoying it too.

Especially all the young kids at the US Open Arthur Ashe Day this year - it looked like a record to me! It was great to see all the Volunteers helping out with the USTA for free, because you know those are the ones doing it for the love of the game.

It was amazing to see young 15 year old CiCi Bellas play fearlessly and win the first round! Plus you never know when our next Andre Agassi or Serena Williams may have been inspired by just being there.

We hope to keep this Tennis-Bargains tradition of helping out tennis fans all over the world get to the Open with some help from our promo codes and ticket giveaways!

Giving back to the Game

Giving away a few US Open tickets each year is hardly "philanthropy" but the best feeling comes from knowing that someone out there in the world got to enjoy some great tennis because of this site.

Especially when we find someone at their first Grand Slam ever - I personally remember how happy and excited I was knowing I was going to  go to my first professional match and hope we can share that same experience with as many people as possible.

We try hard to be the "Robin Hood of tennis" - looking out for the little guy. It is wonderful to know that we can highlight the 2-for-1 ticket offers so that everyone has a chance to see the big game with a friend.

Helping all tennis fans: one Promo Code and one Tennis Deal at a time

We hope that you were able to get some good deals, find some elusive tickets and shared some fun times with your friends, family and the fan sitting to the left and right of you =)

We want everyone to have a great time whether you watched it from home or in NYC.

Enjoy the US Open Finals everyone and see you guys next year!!
